Get Smart

A short note of Being Smart.

In the 60s tv comedy “Get Smart” was about chaos, control; and who was smarter. Are we still in the same plot? But the story’s telling is of tragedy instead of comedy? And what can we do about this?

As our cages collapse, crumble, and disappear, chaos seems to reign. Though this viewpoint is from the paradigm of control. What to do? Often noted, “it doesn’t matter what happens; it matters how you respond to what happens? A quick check on a smart device and it will show chaotic events happening worldwide. So how do you, I and we respond?

“Control” historically notes, “never let a good crisis go to waste.” It is a view that crisis as an opportunity for strategically positioning (often unseen) for more control. Well, what is chaos’ intent? What happens in chaos? I venture to note that something will happen, but we often don’t retrospectively recognize it until its emergence is well on the way.

Yet this does not mean that we must be at the mercy or victims of chaos. Though this requires us to take an account of our past, future, and present. Presence being the operational factor, i.e., being present or being in a fluid state of presence. Presence is both the awareness of and the opportunity of change; presuming we have recognized “cycles of change.”

The cycles viewpoint, whether Ray Dalio’s “Principles,” the histories of the rise and fall of empires, the curves of the rate of adoption or innovation. However, when things happen very quickly, we often note that it was an “evolutionary leap.” Evolutionary leaps occur more often than we realize. We often call them evolutionary jumps because we don’t fully understand the involved factors until long after the “event.” But given enough time, thought and retrospective investigation, it becomes clear what was emerging.

The casual nexus in any moment of emergence is being aware of patterns, e.g., “cycles.” Understand your position in the cycle and your impact during unfolding events. Recognizing emergence within a framework and process prevents it from becoming an emergency. Thus, it is an opportunity to leverage your participation in what being emerges.

Of course, the Love Change Grow thesis is: “We conceive ourselves and as a result, our creation of reality. Though the challenge is not just the “I” (smart and integrity) but also the “we” (compassion and grace). Now that the cages of control are crumbling, what shall we create?

Got Smart? “We create by being… BE. And by being together we are beyond control.”

Choose wisely!

Blessings,

Tim
