Homo Universalis
I was recently reminded of the term and concept of “Homo Universalis.” Back in the mid-1970s I had the dumb luck meeting Barbara Max Hubbard. Of course, I was clueless of who she was and her influence. To prepare for this post found the term homo universalis, meaning universal man, was originally coined in the Renaissance by the writer, philosopher Leon Battista Alberti (1404-1472).
The modern concept of our ancestral species is that there are 7 stages of human evolution.

Are we at the dawning of the next stage of evolution… homo universalis? What are the factors that contribute to this evolution? Is it an elongated adaption or a quantum evolutionary leap? To what and why? What does this new species look like, how does it function, what are the defining characteristics, etc.?
Perhaps this is pure speculative conjecture. Are we able to recognize or even use evolutionary patterns? I do not know where we are, but it is full of possibilities, potential and wonder.
There is a “template for the process” of becoming and being. The educated guess comes from looking at patterns of evolution. From a spectrum of the human existence; archaeology, genetics, ancient stories, morphology, physics, Jungian archetypes, mystics, etc. It extends from the process of conception, genetics, gestation, birth, growing, living, dying and death. And the invisible process between death and rebirth, the Bardo states, involving karmic propensities, selection of intention, purpose/karma, parents and rebirth; Bardo States.
Time
Time is a construct or tool to help us find, organize and understand patterns. Just be aware that time is highly malleable and arbitrary. Time is a helpful coordinate, reference and orientation. Like when using a GPS to get you from point A to point B. Cultural Gestation
An arbitrary start of this story in the 1960s, we had an emergent conception. The conception was the view of earth in space. Against the backdrop of a larger perspective. Suddenly we understood that we but a speck of life on this living planet hurtling through space. “The Whole Earth Catalogue” was an introduction or conception of Mother Earth awareness. This started the gestation. Remembering and noticing our divine mystical roots. Awe-struck, are we more than Homo sapiens… are we part of an infinite mystical experience?
For the past 60 years, we have recovered the memories that mother earth is the womb of our existence on earth. But this is not the entirety of our existence. And now, in a sense, we are in the birth canal. Is this the ascension? To be re-birthed as homo universalis along with Mother Earth to rejoin the ascended realms? Was the 1960s the spiritual conception of the love child? In a brief time, we have emerged from the remnants of tribal/nationalist society. Then through the egocentric self. And now, are we realizing that we are part and partial of the divine universe?
As we birth as part of the universe, we grow into awareness and learning to navigate in expanded consciousness or beingness. In a sense, Mother Earth is like our kindergarten teacher of the universal or galactic school where we learn about free will. We learn to play in and with the universe. Becoming a galactic citizen. For some, the first day of kindergarten is terrifying, for others it is exciting and by the end of the first week, the experience has been beyond our wildest imaginations on that first day.
We are extending our awareness to more than just our physical body and egocentric self. We have learned that thoughts, feelings, ways of being are also energy and frequency. And being energy and frequency is a matter of being on the spectrum… lol. A spectrum from condensed bodies of physical matter to energy, to light and beyond. The masters and mystics in their expanded awareness could choose to be anywhere and everywhere. They understood that all existence was a divine existence. Are we babes of awareness or are we the universe? We are (re)birthing or (re)emerging into our inherent divinity. Playing in and being the garden. We have forgotten that we are the garden, the tomato plant, and the gardener… which all are wondrous and divine!
This renewed experience is mostly about remembering “how to be” in this divine space. It’s remembering that we have are not only a physical body but have expanded beyond the body. Currently, we are expanding into our psychic and energetic frequency of existence.
Mother Earth is still the womb of our existence, playground, and teacher. It is the school of being. Gaining new abilities, learn and understanding our being. Here is the thing, much of it we already know from lifetimes of existence. But now is the big exam, the graduation into BEING.
Inherent Qualities of Being
As you will know, it is about the integrity of being. Which involves the sovereignty of being. The compassion of being, the gracefulness of being and the being of being, i.e., the intention, action and result of being. And the universal appreciation for the unity and diversity of being. As we are and grow to be the love child of the universe. What an exciting adventure and journey awaits.
St Elsewhere… Where?
Saint Elsewhere was a TV show in the 1980s. Seemingly a typical ER/hospital show. Spoiler Alert: the last episode presented the juxtaposition that the complete story was of an autistic child looking into a snow globe that had a hospital inside of the globe. The last episode revealed that the show was the autistic child’s imagination. An imagined and projected story of working and relationships in the hospital that reflected his family. It was a wonderful and fascinating juxtaposition of an intelligent story of characters being merely a production of an autistic child with an obviously rich and lush conceptual life. Adventure Free Form
Free form is essentially the concept of no boundary, but starting from necessity and having the ethos of what can be used that we already have. Necessity is the mother of invention but without the ethos of using what we already have, it can be a wild, a wildly expensive and arrogant goose chase. Side Note: “Free form” is mostly associated with engineering and using digital blockchain, smart contracts, AI, CNC, 3-D printing, exotic metallurgy, composites and even genetics. It is interesting that this tech space is slated to be highly disruptive and perhaps distributively decentralized.
Are we cursed or blessed to live in interesting times? Of course we are!… lol. Do we find ourselves at the end of an epoch, shifting through the trash heap looking for treasures to salvage and use. Or are we at the beginning of an epoch looking at all the diamonds strewn before us and wondering what we shall find, create and pickup?
In either case, the defining question is to ask, “what do we need?” Of course, the answers are not important. Yet the question is of the utmost importance. If we ask the question, “what do we want” begins yet another wild goose chase. If we are beginning a new epoch, we likely do not yet know what we need. Whereas if we are at the end of an old epoch, we certainly know what we don’t want. And perhaps have an inkling of what we needed but failed to recognize it at the time; and now it’s too late. Or is it?
Standing at the top the garbage heap of the old epoch, we do can salvage treasures. But how shall we determine what is valuable? What is it that, had we’d known, we would have valued? This is simply asking of “what are the hard-won and valuable lessons that we have learned? Thus, taking inventory of these lessons of the past becomes a way to measure and select a few of the diamonds that might be useful, which are strewn before us. What we find are the most valuable diamonds which have pragmatic utility. And the most eye-catching, shiny, and glittery are worthless trashy distractions. Thus, the challenge is to only select that which is useful to where you are going. The weight of gold and lead are both heavy. Is “free form” a new homo universalis way of being? We can go forward or back in time, picking up pieces and parts that look promising. Can we create a new self? Is a crisis or collapse not only an opportunity but also like going through a building recycle salvage yard, thrift store or odd curiosity shop picking up odd pieces… of who we might be-come? Perhaps we stumble on to barkers’ row at the carnival and are enticed to step inside a sideshow of wonders. It does not matter what it is known as, the akashic, the library, multi-dimensionality, buddha fields, the galactic, infinity of heavens, etc. Whether it’s from astrology to astrophysics, alpha/omega, internal/external, and beyond. What matters is being consciousness/aware, recognizing that we are the experience, the observer the experience and are yet beyond it all. What worked, what didn’t work, and what can we apply from the past to build our future? It is like free form building or engineering. It’s a creative, artistic, craft process. And we have all had various experiences. We were surprised and delighted that we can make something work. For example, my first experiences of mass consciousness on a larger scale were at several Rainbow Gatherings during the late 70s and early 80s. A few thousand to 10,000 people would meet in the forest. It was like a mythical Arthurian carnival in the woods with a bunch of critters, odd beings, villagers, and mystics in the woods under the sun, stars and moon. On the 4th of July, all would gather in a field, formed a circle, and meditated for an hour. Rainbows always appeared. One time, iirc, in the Idaho, the meadow’s view was down the mountain valley. There appeared a host of 5-7 arching rainbows down the valley; blew my mind. I stood there in awe and wondered if this a sign of the promise that when people together had a like-minded, conscious intent and heart we could create or reveal a new experience of reality?
Naïveté and Initiation
Being a teenager in the 70s, part was discovering things like meditation, sweat lodges, Buddhism, psychedelics, hypnosis, flotation tanks, Barbra Max Hubbard, etc. In retrospect, these seemingly random experiences were later recognized as initiations on the path. Initiations being introductory experiences of new awareness via a thought, feeling, and/or experience that lead to an expansion of further spiritual aspects of experience. It is like a conception, awakening and gestational growing. In real life, a rite of passage or planting of a seed in fertile soil. A reciprocal binding results in the reflection of internal and external path and growth. This is nothing new in the realm of the human experience. Yet this binding is a nexus for opening-up or quantum evolving. One notices the reciprocal nature of being. Time and space and dimensions become connected. Past and future time and space are connected via the now. The connection between yin and yang, light and dark, male and female, etc. explode or leap to a new level of experience.
As we move into our universal being, does discovery morph into remembering? It’s like, “oh ya, I remember this!” Or like a feeling of Déjà vu. Especially in relation to Carl Jung’s “Collective Unconsciousness.” However, instead of a pathological paradigm of Déjà vu that is inherently based on the past and memories of the collective unconsciousness. What if we approached as the future collective consciousness? In which we can pull or download from the future. If we are evolving into homo universalis, then the ability to pull concepts from the future to meet the needs of today in a “free form engineering” process is quite possible. Again, this “pulling things from the future” is nothing new. For example, we do this every day, when we use the current concept and practice of debt/credit. Debit/credit is not inherently bad, but the unfortunate thing is that the fees/profits are funneled, captured and hoarded by the elites and the for-profit-corporations instead of being (re)distributed and returned to future generations. Developing and building low cost, highly efficient, durable, and open-accessed infrastructure could easily accomplish the distribution or return. (Apologies for the rant).
Back to the Reflections of Now
Both the past and future are connected to and accessed in the now. Specifically, the universe, whether remembering the future or discovering the past, the universal is to be. To have access to the universal being… is to be homo universalis. I.e., the universal being human and having a universal experience. Discovering, remembering and being our universal being/self. It is the process which reflects, is a reflection of and being ***or a remembrance of a lot of patterns and themes, that many cultures have had and do have in their history in their architect consciousness of their culture of their experience. It is fascinating that with the things like the Internet and stuff that kind of information that kind of consciousness that kind of connection with people across the, seeing this, you know that laid down at a bit of a level of perspective foot level we can see the larger pattern on one hand and then. And then we can zoom down into the internal and discover singular existence. While also we are expanding with more universal consciousness. Which is beyond the ego self and becoming unlimited. Many see that ego unlimited is a trap that limits us to being small, unable to expand being part of the universe. Externally and internally, expansion and collapsing are allowing the connection to existence more than we had ever imagined.
Being light and Shining
Meditation is a technique of morphing into a way of being. For instance, walking around smiling. Greeting the world with a smile. Greeting all others with a smile. Smile is a technique that becomes a meditation that becomes a way of being. So no longer are we meditating in isolation but we’re meditating as a way of being. Being is an interaction with the world, our energy frequency of smile. It’s a walking meditation. As we are walking around noticing and enjoying the outdoors, the fresh air, the sun and shady environments; smile, enjoy and walk along. We smile at others because it it’s a way of sharing and a way of being and beaming. Life becomes a meditation of being.
It’s a way of being. It doesn’t take money. It doesn’t take technique. We just are. We just decide to smile. Perhaps at first, we may not feel happy, but if we can force a smile, it may feel like we are an imposter. But in a few moments, a few days, a few weeks, we learn to feel. We discover what it’s like to be happy. We smile easily, authentic, and genuine in our happiness of life. And we share a smile; some folks may think, oh what a happy idiot. But nothing can be further from the truth. We have realized, simply we are happy. We love being happy and cannot help but to share our happiness. You can start happy hour whenever you want and for as long as you want. No worries, its happy hour.
